Marty Cirkiel

Attorney

Licensed Master of Social Work

LMSW-AP

Marty is passionate about many things and if you come to know him, it's plain to see his first passion is family. Born in NYC in 1950, he married his Texas sweetheart Pam at a June wedding in 1973. They made the Greater Austin area their family's home for over three decades & are immensely proud of their two adult children & three grandchildren who also live there.

You would also find that he is passionate about Social Justice. Before becoming an attorney in 1991, Mr. Cirkiel was a social worker. He first interned at the Travis State School and after graduating with his MSW, he became a clinician at the Brenham State School. In both schools, he worked closely with individuals with severe disabilities and their families.

In 1984, Marty became the Director of the Williamson County Mental Health Center, which at the time was part of the Community Services Department of the Austin State Hospital (the predecessor of Bluebonnet Trails MHMR). He continues to maintain his Social Work Licensure as an Advanced Practitioner.

The Law is certainly one of his passions. After earning his law degree, he was hired by the QA Division of the Texas Dept. of MHMR where he investigated patient rights violations in psychiatric facilities. Working closely with the AG’s Office, & later the U.S. Dept. of Justice, Marty assisted in the litigation of health care fraud claims and deceptive trade practices against private providers. After a brief stint with the TX Dept. of Health, he became General Counsel for Charter Medical Corp.

Marty takes a large amount of pride in his work as he passionately applies his skill set to serve the community. In 1995, he began to work in private practice, collaborating with attorneys across Texas in the successful litigation of patient rights violations in various mental health facilities. Marty is known by his peers to be a tireless attorney who fairly but zealously advocates for the rights and entitlements of adults and children with disabilities.

Finally, it would be a disservice not to mention that Marty is a passionate sports fan who supports many local-area teams including the Longhorns, the Spurs, Austin FC, and the Round Rock Express. He's also a Yankees fan -- but don't hold it against him because what else can you be as a boy from the Bronx?
